Jinbonet not only provide technological service, but also is itself a place where progressive ideas are produced and circulated while a number of social movement issues are discussed.
Jinbonet is active to protect the human rights in the information society such as the freedom of opinion and expression in cyber space, the right to access information, and the right of privacy. We have actively worked against the government actions that try to adopt the internet real name system and to censor online posts. Furthermore, we have fought against legislations, for example resident registration system, electronic passport, DNA database, and CCTV, that may hurt the privacy of citizens. We also oppose the current copyright law that may hinder creation of cultures, and believe there should be built a knowledge ecosystem on the soil of information sharing. In addition, we oppose the pharmaceutical patent that may hurt the right to health. Policies regarding information communication must be made in democratic way with the people’s participation involved.
Jinbonet is a member of the Association for Progressive Communication (APC). We believe the international solidarity for human rights and public value is a key to solve various problems in the information society.
